Vybe Tech Sheets

Using your Vybe phone

Here are some key points about setting up and using your Vybe Phone.

Setting up a Vybe-supplied phone

Vybe-supplied phones will automatically configure themselves the first time they are powered on with a working internet connection. This process takes around 15 to 20 minutes to complete.

Setting up other VoIP phones

VoIP phones that are not provided by Vybe can also be set up to connect to the Vybe Phone service. These phones can either be software running on a phone or computer, or a physical phone that supports SIP. Please consult both your phone's instructions for how to enter in your connection details and the Vybe Control Panel's on the "VoIP settings" page from the "Phone" menu.

Server or domain voip.vybenetworks.com
Username or phone number For most Vybe Phone users, this is a ten-digit phone number without any punctuation. The primary username for the Vybe Phone account is the "Phone number" from the VoIP settings page.
Password This password is the "SIP password" from the VoIP settings page.

Vybe Phone does not make use of the display name supplied by the phone. That can be adjusted through the Control Panel, and changes will take a few minutes to take effect.

Vybe does not provide a STUN or ICE server.

Connecting an analog phone

Analog phones can be connected to the Vybe Phone service using an additional piece of hardware known as an ATA, or Analog Telephone Adapter. The ATA fits between your phone and your internet connection to both translate the modern digital communications of the internet and handle the connection settings needed to connect to VoIP phone services. This functionality is included in some routers.

The ATA would be configured in a similar way to a VoIP phone.

Connecting a second phone

The ability to connect a second VoIP phone to your Vybe Phone account is an optional, free feature that can be enabled. This second connection uses the same server and password as the primary connection settings, but a different username. This username is "99999" followed by five digits, your Vybe Networks account ID with zeros added to make five digits.

Phones set up with this username can both place and receive calls through the Vybe Phone service.

Calls can also be forwarded to an outside phone by entering that phone's number into the "Cell phone" field of the VoIP Settings in the Vybe Control Panel. Phones connected in this manner can only receive calls made to your number in the Vybe Phone service. The voicemail service of the forwarded phone may answer calls placed to your Vybe Phone number.

Voicemail

All Vybe Phone accounts have voicemail. The mail box can contain up to 100 messages, and new voicemail messages are emailed to the linked Vybe user account.

To manage your voicemail from your phone connected to the Vybe Phone service, dial *98 and follow the prompts. To manage it from other phones, call your Vybe Phone number and enter asterisk (*) while your voicemail greeting is playing.

The voicemail management PIN can be found on the Vybe Control Panel's "VoIP settings" page.

Additional Phone Number

You can add more phone numbers for an additional charge. This allows you to have local presence in other North American cities.

SIP Phone Address

Your Vybe phone also has a SIP address. This means that anyone with a SIP phone can call you for free from anywhere on the Internet. For example, if your phone number is "416-555-5555" and your login is "user" then your phone can be reached as "sip:4165555555@Vex.Net" or "sip:user@Vex.Net". If you are a virtual domain client we can also add addresses in your own domain.

Good Words
from our Clients

I first began using Vybe Networks, formerly Vex.Net, before the beginning of time, i.e. sometime in the 1990s.

They have hosted my websites and offered other services. Not only have I never had a problem, but their customer service is personal and responsive. And their prices are reasonable.

It may sound like a cliché to say that they are reliable, good and affordable. But that's exactly what they are.
