Account Page

The home page for regular users is the basic account information page. The page documents itself but here is a bit more explanation.

On the left is a gray box. This will give you some information about the user logged in with at least their email address on Vybe.

Here are the fields on the right.

User name

This field acts as an identifier for your account. It must be unique within your group but can use any name, even if it is used by other Vybe groups. If there is one or more domains associated with the group, then this field is used to create your virtual address. For example, if you put “joe” here and your domain is “example.com” then your email address is “joe@example.com”. If you have more than one domain then the same thig is done for each one.

The value here must start with a letter and can contain numbers, letters, periods, underscores and hyphens. However, it should be noted that the various specifications require that email addresses, including the user part and the domain, are treated case insensitive. This lets you craft an east to read email address for business cards and other printed and digital media. For example, if your name is “Roberta Yvette Ang” and your domain is “angry.com” You can use “RobertaYvetteAng@AngRY.com” to indicate that you aren’t angry.

Public Name

Your public name is used for a few things including adding it to your outgoing emails if not alreqady specified by your own email client. Im practice it probably won’t be used for much.

Forward To

The address in this field can be used to forward your email to any other address on Vybe. This includes Vybe itself as well as to any other client on our system.

The reason for the limitation is that having emails forwarded to larger, external addresses can cause problems and may even cause us to not be able to send email. If you do need to read your email on another system you can do so by pulling it to there instead of pushing it from here.

Password Change

Password changing is done in a secure method. First, you need to enter the old password. Even tough you usewd your password to log in, we ask again here. This is so that someone can’t walk up to your workstation while you are away for a moment and change your password. We feel that any other damage they might do can be fixed as long as you can still log in.

You need to enter your new password twice. Since we do not display what you are typing in case anyone can see over your shoulder it is easier to make a mistake and lock yourself out. Putting it in twice significantly decreases the odds of making a mistake.

If you are the master account for the group you will also be able to change passwords for anyone in your group. In this case you will need to enter your own password. The two new password fields can be anything as long as they match. This allows you to handle users who forgot their passwords without having to contact Vybe.

Mailing List

There are two mailing lists for clients. Both lists will get all announcements concerning updates, planned outages and other notices. The “Vybe.News” list is read only. The only messages on it come from the system administrators. The “Vybe.Rant” list gets all the same system announcements but allows our clients to weigh in with their thoughts on our operation. Account leaders must be on one or the other list but other users may abstain from both.

If you are the master account for the group you will be assigned a mailing list regrdless. If you don’t choose a list you will be sent all announcements but won’t see any responses from our other clients.

Note that both lists tend to be low volume.
