2002.03.13 Newsgroup Article Numbers Reset

For those who haven't noticed yet, the article numbers have been reset on the news server. You will have to mark all articles as unread in your news reader, or edit your .newsrc file to remove everything after the : (colon) on each line. In Tin you can use "^R" to mark all articles unread. In slrn "esc u" does the trick on each newsgroup. There doesn't seem to be such a command for trn. Finally, if you want, here is a one-liner command you could run in your home directory which will reset your newsrc file. (The following will appear wrapped but should be all one line). If you use this, backup your .newsrc file first in case something goes wrong. python -c "import re; fn='.newsrc'; f=re.sub(r'([:!])\s.*','\\\1\x20',open(fn).read()); open(fn,'w').write(f)"

Good Words
from our Clients

I first began using Vybe Networks, formerly Vex.Net, before the beginning of time, i.e. sometime in the 1990s.

They have hosted my websites and offered other services. Not only have I never had a problem, but their customer service is personal and responsive. And their prices are reasonable.

It may sound like a cliché to say that they are reliable, good and affordable. But that's exactly what they are.
